Knee & Hip Implant Materials

The most common metallic sensitizers used in orthopedic alloys are nickel, cobalt, and chromium. Orthopedic grades of stainless steel and cobalt-chromium alloys both contain these materials, while titanium and titanium alloys do not.

The femoral and tibial components of Conformis knee implants are composed of Cobalt Chrome Molybdenum Alloy (Co-Cr-Mo).

To reduce the likelihood of adverse reactions due to allergic reaction, we recommend that a patient with a potential metal sensitivity be seen by a dermatologist or allergist and undergo appropriate testing before receiving a Conformis implant.
